Due to a contract dispute between King County and H.U.D. the JobFind program has been suspended.
When this issue is resolved and funding is reinstated, JobFind activities will resume.

Vashon Youth and Family Services provides a unique service to unemployed and underemployed residents of Vashon and Maury Island who are seeking living wage jobs. Funded by a King County Community Development Block Grant, JobFind staff help unemployed and underemployed adults craft resumes, polish interviewing and presentation skills, and plan a targeted job search to help them take that next step in finding a better job or changing their career path. This program is absolutely free to participants and to employers.

For local employers and workers, in the hallway next to the Vashon Book Shop, a job board is available to post jobs available and "work wanted." There are also helpful tips and infomation provided by JobFind staff. We hope employers and job seekers will find this to be helpful!

Individual assistance: One-to-one assistance is offered by appointment on Wednesdays and Thursdays. To schedule an assessment interview, please call JobFind staff at 463-5511 X603. Due to grant requirements, to be served by the JobFind program, participants' household income cannot exceed 80% of King County median income. Please call VYFS for more information.

Semi-monthly classes: Ongoing workshops are offered on the second and fourth Thursday of each month, from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. in cooperation with the Vashon Public Library. Drop-ins are welcome at these workshops. Classes are very much client-driven and may include the following topics:  uncovering the hidden job market, dynamite resumes, marketing yourself with a great cover letter, and polishing your pitch. Networking is a very important and useful part of class. Participants do not have to be enrolled in JobFind to attend these classes.

Are you a Vashon Island employer? In the JobFind program, we help participants learn about being an exemplary employee, writing a resume, interviewing & negotiating, networking, and making career transitions. Your participation in panel discussions, mock interviews, and in other components of the JobFind program contributes to participants' success. You may choose to be involved as an individual business owner or employer or as a member of the Vashon Rotary Club.

The collaboration between Vashon Rotary Club members with JobFind staff and clients and their presence at JobFind classes has had a substantial impact on the program. Participants appreciate the opportunity to hear from members of the business community and to have a chance to interact with them. If you are interested in learning more or would like to participate in the workshops, you are warmly encouraged to contact us at 463-5511.

If you are an employer and would like to talk to JobFind staff about job openings, Debra Blake would also be pleased to talk to you. JobFind and Vashon Youth & Family Services are not responsible for any work arrangements between employers and JobFind participants.
